After leaving NASA, I co-founded Telepresence
Research to design and develop virtual environments and
remote presence technologies and applications. My goal
was to create compelling immersive experiences in remote
or synthesized environments.
This telepresence system was developed
by Telepresence Research and Fake Space Labs based on
earlier work at NASA Ames Research Center. The system
includes a head-coupled stereoscopic camera unit and computer-controlled
platform that moves in correspondence with the BOOM viewer
motion. The camera system is mounted on a mobile robot
platform that enables overall positional changes with
joystick or speech commands.
